I just wanna be, I just wanna be successful– Brother Aubrey Graham
What’s up!? What’s gucci!? What it do?! Welcome to my blog! I’m Michael. You may call me Mike B, Mike, MB, or simply Michael. I don’t have a preference. Just don’t call me Michelle (HAHA seriously). I’m currently a Consultant in the Risk and Financial Advisory practice specifically in their Cyber Risk market offering at my firm. Prior to this, I was Business Advisory Services Senior Associate (IT Auditor for those in the back) at a small CPA firm. I’m also a Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA).
I’m born and raised in South Carolina. I got my Bachelor of Science in Business Administration-Accounting from the University of South Carolina. I’m a band geek. I played Alto Saxophone for my entire undergrad career in band. I got my Master of Science in Information Systems Audit and Control from Georgia State University. I lived in Atlanta, Georgia for around four years. I enjoyed my time there but better was waiting for me in the Greater Washington DC area. A restart. A new adventure. A start of fresh journey.
Journey | jour·ney | /ˈjərnē/: an act or instance of traveling from one place to another.
Journey is a word that has been coming to mind since the start of 2019. I’m on a journey to become the best version of myself while I live my best life. 2019 gives me the opportunity to start the year right and I’m on a great start so far. From 2016 to the beginning of 2018 was a rough few chapters in my life. Even though I learned much about myself, I needed a fresh start. Moving from ATL to the DMV in March 2018 was a turning point in my life that I never realized I needed. I’m a southern boy at heart, I love college football on Saturdays, and I drink Sweet Tea. Moving from the south, farther away from family was a test of faith that I passed. I feel like myself again: confident, inspired, and ready to learn! Look at me now. I decided to start a blog (originally I was overwhelmed and afraid to even attempt to start one). I decided to learn a new technical skill such as programming. Later, I will begin studying for another certification. I plan to learn and grow all 2019 and beyond. As I write this about me, I have a kool-aid smile on my face thinking about this journey and all the possibilities of where it will lead me to. Anyways, I think I’ve rambled on enough. Go ahead and take a seat, subscribe to my blog (hopefully I have a place at the bottom of this page where you can drop your email), and enjoy my journey.
Fun fact: English was my least favorite subject growing up. I never considered myself a strong writer. I remember my struggle papers in my ENGLISH 101 dual enrollment class. I’ll most likely never call myself a writer or blogger. However, I’m 100% sure I will improve throughout this adventure. Just another reason you should stick around during this journey.
